Types of Meditation Techniques and Benefits

The word meditation stood for yoga in Hindi. Yoga is derived from root word yog which in Hindi means, effort of our soul atman trying to yoke with God Almighty, its original source (Brahman in Hinduism). In Hindi two yog two equals four. Yoga meditation is the path to reach God in present life. It should not be confused with yogic exercises that were meant to keep the physical manifest body fit and fine.

As detailed in scriptures of Hinduism, as many human beings as many different paths to God Almighty can there be. Yoga meditation is a combination of many practices that led one towards God Almighty. Foremost of which is indulgence in nishkama karma yoga, offering fruits of karma performed to God Almighty all the time. In reality, fruits of karma performed never belonged to us. Why?

The present physical manifest human form was undertaken by our soul atman, the consciousness within to reach stage of absolute purity, remove dross impurities within. The human form was but a medium for our soul atman, the spirit within to reach cosmic end of life, 8.4 millionth manifestation, last in cosmic life cycle. Of its own, no soul atman could purify self. It needs a body, a medium to work out its karma.

Indulgence in nishkama karma yoga results in subduing our ego! It leads human beings towards total submission to God Almighty. We practically become a trustee in affairs of God. Truly we were a custodian, caretaker all the time taking care of things that already belonged to God Almighty. We were only an instrument, a soldier of God Almighty doing his bidding all the time.

Maharishi Ramana, a fierce exponent of path of self enquiry (path of Neti… not this, not this) advocated lying in shavasna pose of yoga to indulge in self enquiry to reach God in present life. I practically duplicated this path. I started my search for God six years of age. By 13 my simple desire turned to firm conviction… come whatever may, in this very life I shall see and meet God.

Following path undertaken by Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana, in the wee hours of third of August 1993 at 37 years of age I finally reached God. There was no defined path of yoga meditation that I undertook. By logically analyzing precepts of spirituality contained in scriptures of Hinduism, following path of self enquiry, path of jnana yoga (absolute wisdom) I finally completed my spiritual journey, reached 8.4 millionth manifestation, last in cosmic life cycle.

Practice of absolute celibacy for a minimum period of 12 years in continuation was integral to full awakening of kundalini shakti, the coiled Serpentine energy lying dormant in base of spine. Furthermore, our faith in God must be absolute 100%. We must also walk path of absolute truthfulness all the time to unveil hidden underlying precepts of spirituality contained in different scriptures of Hinduism.
