Yoga Derived from Root word Yog was the Only Path to Reaching Full Spiritual Awakening

Yoga derived from root word yog was the only path to reaching full spiritual awakening. Yog in Hindi means effort of soul atman trying to merge with Parmatman, God Almighty (Brahman). In Hindi two yog two equals four. Ever since souls’ atmans, the consciousness within separated from their source, God Almighty himself… they got mired in impurities. To cleanse self of dross impurities within started cosmic life cycle of every soul atman. As detailed in scriptures of Hinduism the present journey of life belongs to consciousness existing within our heart and not the physical manifest form.

In absence of soul atman, the human form carried no meaning! If the consciousness leaves human body, it would be as good as dead.

It is not yoga but a set of yogic exercises that people usually termed yoga. Pranayama (breathing exercise) was part of yoga. If we desire reaching our soul atman existing in our heart our indulgence in pranayama was necessitated. It is not human body that needs breathing; it is existence of a spirit in our heart that needs the vital oxygen. The moment soul atman leaves the body, human body dies.

Yoga in Hinduism, a very broad precept covers various aspects of cosmic life of which spirituality was foremost. To reach God in present life one needs traveling path of spirituality. We never reached God via path of religion (rituals).

Traveling path of spirituality means realizing our true nature, realizing we were a spirit, a consciousness existing in our heart. Undertaking spiritual journey when we succeed removing dross impurities within our soul atman, we as a soul atman, the spirit reached stage of absolute purity. This is stage is termed enlightenment when karma finally negates to zero.

For negating karma to zero, our establishing absolute control over five senses and mind was necessitated. Control over five senses is achieved traveling path of nishkama karma yoga. For a nishkama karma Yogi… everything all the time belonged to God Almighty. Even fruits of karma performed belonged to our consciousness within and never the manifest physical human form. By controlling desires and wishes, by controlling our ego we finally established control over five senses. Control over mind followed automatically

The primary path of yoga was through indulgence in scriptures. It is only jnana wisdom contained in scriptures that helped one negate karma to zero. We traveled path of nishkama karma yoga only after indulgence in jnana wisdom contained in scriptures. As nothing in scriptures could be understood literally, we have to follow path of contemplation, logical reasoning… introspection to reach hidden underlying meaning of scriptural texts of different religions of world. Spiritual progress was directly proportional to our indulgence in contemplation.

Most human beings indulged in spiritual life literally. Unless we followed path of contemplation, nothing much could be gained on path of pure spirituality.

Yoga meditation is the precept, indulgence in contemplation… our paths to God Almighty, spiritual awakening!
