Immortal meaning – Is Immortality theoretically possible – Can Humans become Immortal

Immortal a continued existence forever speaks of eternal life, something beyond clutches of birth and death. Immortality could not be gained; it has to exist from times immemorial. We just could not say something that was ephemeral could gain immortality like human beings! Immortality has to exist from times immemorial; it could never be gained nor destroyed.

Either we were immortal from the beginning of time or we were not. Immortality was not like enlightenment that was gained during cosmic sojourn. Even kundalini awakening is experienced travelling spiritual journey. But immortality definitely exists ever since formation of cosmos.

This can be demonstrated from the fact that human soul rather every soul atman was immortal by nature, could not be created or destroyed. All souls’ atmans in entire cosmos exist from the beginning of time. They existed even at the time of big bang and before.

The big bang explosion results because all souls’ atmans in cosmos, when come together in their pure form explode with a big bang causing creation of entire cosmos. The Hindu scriptures like Upanishads (independent treatises) clearly explained this theory of big bang occurrence.

If immortality exists from beginning of time, it becomes clear that human beings could never gain immortality. Indulging in spiritual scriptures like Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads we realize that immortality truly belonged to our inner self, soul atman existing in heart and not the manifest physical body. Concepts like physical immortality carry no meaning.

Souls’ atmans, the consciousness inside human beings was immortal even before manifesting human form and also after reaching stage of absolute purity when human beings gained enlightenment and finally salvation moksha. Spiritually all souls atmans were indestructible. In their cosmic sojourn they gained impurities. Manifesting body after another all souls’ atmans finally cleansed themselves of dross impurities within forever.

This cleansing process is termed spiritual journey in Hinduism. Prime reason why spiritual journey is the inner journey a human being undertakes. Eradicating traces of karma and reaching stage of absolute purity is the life goal of every soul atman.

This analogy can be explained from the example of mining an ore. If we were to extract one KG of pure gold from a lump of hundred KG of gold ore, could we ever say that one KG of gold never existed? One KG of pure gold definitely existed even before mining but in a different form. It was scattered all over the lump of hundred KG of gold ore.

Using requisite mining machinery and processes, one KG of pure gold was separated from 99 KG of dross impurities within. Small chunks of gold were embedded, sandwiched in between 99 KG of impurities. For removal of 99 KG of impurities human beings need indulging in karma. It is through composite processes of karma and evolution, one KG of pure gold regains its original form.

Is Immortality theoretically possible

Even theoretically immortality was never gained. As immortality belongs to the spirit within, we could definitely say that human body was manifested by immortal soul existing in our heart.

No matter how much science progresses, immortality could never be gained by anyone (that includes all form of life) as the word immortal implies, it belongs to the inner world. The value of immortality, the concept of immortality can be realized only by a traveler of spiritual path, a seeker in search of god.

Mahavira, Gautama Buddha even Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed, all realized immortality of soul atman existing in heart. In their spiritual pursuit of life, all these enlightened ones finally became an immortal pure soul. All dross impurities within eradicated, these humble human beings finally became a man god in their lifetime.

As the need for a liberated soul atman to manifest a body any further ceases to exist, the immortal souls of Mahavira, Gautama Buddha even Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed were free to travel to any part of cosmos at their will. The immortal soul atman after reaching stage of absolute purity (having liberated self from cycle of birth and death forever) enjoins God Almighty forever.

At the time of separation (the moment when big bang occurred) all souls’ atmans separated like different individual pieces of a puzzle. As they regained their lost original pure prime pristine primordial form, they enjoined the main puzzle. The completed puzzle when all souls’ atmans in cosmos come together in their pure form is what we called God Almighty in all its glory.

As human beings if we seek immortality, our undertaking spiritual journey was mandated, a path as detailed in sacred Bhagavad Gita the doctrine given to mankind by Lord Krishna in the battle of Mahabharata. Indulgence in teachings of Bhagavad Gita is a sure shot method of gaining immortality in present life, finally becoming a pure soul atman forever.

The only way to reach stage of enlightenment was indulgence in teachings contained in Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads (independent treatises). There was never ever any other path or way out. Right from Mahavira to Gautama Buddha, even Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed… all indulged in sacred teachings of Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads to gain enlightenment in their lifetime.

Lord Krishna came about 1000 years earlier to coming of Mahavira. Both Mahavira and Gautama Buddha were contemporaries still Gautama Buddha followed Mahavira by about 77 years. Almost about 423 years later followed Jesus Christ and a few centuries later Prophet Mohammed.

The abstract teachings contained in Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads told all about immortality of the immortal soul, and ephemerality of manifest human form.

As detailed in scriptures of Hinduism in its entire life cycle, a soul atman manifests a maximum of 8.4 million bodies to cleanse itself of dross impurities within. Initially manifesting form of amoeba (single cell formation, the first manifestation by soul atman in cosmic life cycle), then evolving into multi-cell formation, insect life, plant life the animal form and finally human life.

In human form we can have a maximum of 1.1 million manifestations to cleanse self of dross impurities within. The present human life, the present human form is not the end of cosmic life.

Rightly said, we have miles to go before we sleep! And this eternal sleep is the stage when human beings travelling path of spirituality finally succeed gaining enlightenment in their lifetime.

Without venturing into any scientific experimentation, human beings must indulge in spirituality to reach cosmic end of life, become a pure soul atman forever!

Can Humans become Immortal

Yes human beings can become immortal but not in physical form. Travelling path of pure spirituality as detailed in Bhagavad Gita, when human beings succeed negating karma to zero; it announces ceasing of cycle of birth and death for soul atman within. The pure soul atman need not manifest a body any further.

Instead of gaining immortality bodily, we helped our soul atman within to reach stage of immortality. This also proves that we were primarily a cosmic, spiritual traveler on its cosmic life cycle of 8.4 million manifestations on the whole. As per Bhagavad Gita we were primarily a soul atman and not the manifest physical human form.

Indulging in spirituality as detailed in Hinduism scriptures we can definitely realize our true inner self, become immortal forever.

The precept of immortality always lay in domain of those who believed in spirituality never religion. Following path of religion (indulging in rituals) one never accomplished anything relating to spirituality. God, state of absolute purity as a soul atman can be reached only by indulging in scriptures of Hinduism primarily Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads.

Foremost of all, before embarking on path of spirituality we must learn to distinguish spirituality from religion.
