Occurrence of Mahabharata happens every 3500 to 5000 years when an avatar of present era advents. The coming of an avatar is preceded by a mother of all wars, a Mahabharata of present times! About 3650 years before came Lord Krishna, an avatar of Dwapar Yuga and about a decade from now mankind would witness advent of Kalki avatar… savior, messiah of present era!
The advent of an avatar announces cleansing of society was necessitated. To re-establish Dharma (righteousness), comes an avatar… a deadly combination of an enlightened one coupled with Chanakya (the most able administrator in the entire history of mankind). To save lives of millions of soldiers and countrymen Chanakya got 100 kings eliminated in one night. As per Lord Krishna still no sin was incurred!
In the aftermath of a war like Mahabharata, an avatar was a need of mankind. Death of millions could be calamitous. To assuage the feelings of ailing mankind an avatar mounted with power of Bhagavad Gita disseminates to mankind the spiritual wisdom following which mankind ushers into Satyuga (the Golden period). The society finally realizes that diamonds were nothing more than stones polished bright.
Every Mahabharata results from peaking egoist tendencies. In Dwapar Yuga Kauravas were not willing to part with what justly belonged to Pandavas. In present times two fundamentalist religions would go to war. The hatred towards each other finally reaches its peak. Annihilation of adharma (lawlessness) was the only solution. This could be realized only by an avatar, never an enlightened one alone!
