As detailed in Scriptures of Sanatana Dharma, apart from Brahm nothing ever existed in entire Brahmmand. This is also affirmed in the doctrine of Advaita Vedanta by Adi Shankaracharya that duality was never part of cosmic system. There was one and only one God we called Brahm in Hinduism.
If the cosmic truth is so, what of countless myriads of gods and goddesses existing in Sanatana Dharma ? Celestial beings are often referred as devtas in Hinduism. They are merely personification of Brahm, nothing more.
Talking about Brahma, it is the creative attribute of Brahm, the embodiment of entire creation! It has nothing to do with absolute reality. Similar as a professor in a university can also be termed Dean, Proctor or even the Vice Chancellor, those who believed in God as a creator related to Brahma.
Commoners, masses who are unable to comprehend Brahm in its entirety, believed in various physical attributes of Brahm. One who maintains the entire cosmos is termed Vishnu and the ultimate controller over life and death is termed Shiva! All three are simply attributes of Brahm, nothing more. In reality none by the name of Brahma, Vishnu or Shiva (Mahesh) ever existed in entire cosmos.
Even in the sermon of bhagavad gita, Bhagwan Krishna emphasizes on the one and only Brahm, the creator of entire Brahmmand. He emphasizes that all prayers addressed to Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh ultimately reached Brahm. So why not pray to Brahm directly ?
In the entire history of Sanatana Dharma, all devtas were personification of Brahm in different forms. From five years of age I believed in existence of Brahm in entirety. Not for once in my life have I given any significance to existence of varied devtas, as none of them ever existed in entire cosmos. My relationship with Brahm has always been direct, with whom I have been communicating ever since five years of age.
Believing in something that is nonexistent does not help one in adhyatmik progress. For me even Bhagwan Krishna never existed. As Bhagwan Krishna has always been depicted as sarthi (charioteer), I finally understood that Bhagwan Krishna was nothing else but our Atman residing in our heart. This realization greatly helped me in finally reaching Brahm in 1993, when I had a lengthy sakshatkaar of two and half hours.
In present times many plays, dramas and movies have been made on various attributes of Brahm. They are simply means to earn a living, nothing more. None understood the abstract reality, not for once. As a seeker, traveler of adhyatmik path we must indulge only in satya to understand the hidden underlying truth. In my given below video of Samudra Manthan, a true sadhaka would realize that Shiva was none other than a God realized soul, an Atman that had purified itself forever.
Adhyatma does not run on beliefs, it is totally based on satya (path of truthfulness)! If we are truthful in our approach, then we would definitely reach hidden underlying meaning of every shloka contained in bhagavad gita. In all Scriptures of Sanatana Dharma, zero value has been attributed to devtas, for they were only attributes of Brahm. Adi Shankaracharya realized this absolute truth and so did Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharshi Ramana. Prime reason why all succeeded in reaching Brahm in their lifetime!
