You are perfectly right in your surmise. If I had been in your place I would have done the same thing. Life truly is not all about earning money. This precept of life is lived by people in West, not in India. Most in India lived only for the sake of money. For them money was not a means birth an end itself.
The prime reason for many Indian children migrating to West was this. They wanted a cleaner life, a well-balanced life where money was only a means not an end in itself. Even Bhagavad Gita says in life we must run after jnana wisdom never money or wealth alone.
Why try to change our parents. They were born and brought up in a different environment. We must follow our passion of life unmindful of what our parents’ desire.
Right from six years of age I have followed my passion in life. I wanted to know everything relating to God. By 13 years of age I finally decided to go in search of God. 25 years of yoga meditation I finally reached stage of self realization, god realization. This is my last manifestation on mother earth, 8.4 millionth manifestation… last in cosmic life cycle.
Had I followed dictates of my parents, I would have reached nowhere or become a serious patient of depression. Scriptures of Hinduism say we must always follow the voice of our soul atman that seemed to come from within our heart. Prompted by the voice of our soul atman we can reach any bracket of life, manifest destiny in totality. The control of life never lay in hands of God Almighty.
