The battle of Mahabharata was primarily won by Dharma. The battle of Mahabharata was primarily fought for only one reason… re-establishing Dharma (righteousness) against evil forces of adharma (lawlessness). The battle of Mahabharata was never about winning or losing… it was about re-establishing authority of truth all over again.
Allegorically battle of Mahabharata represents an ongoing battle between good thoughts and bad thoughts that incessantly occurred in human beings all the time. Following path of spirituality, dictates of Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita people like Arjuna finally succeed in reaching stage of enlightenment and re-establishing order in the society.
Amongst Pandava camp only Arjuna was competent to decipher what Lord Krishna had to say! Enlightenment truly was never gained that easily. One needs indulging in jnana yoga (path of absolute wisdom) to reach the hidden inner meaning of sacred texts contained in Bhagavad Gita.
