Tandava nritya, the cosmic dance of Lord Shiva represents the society reaching its lowest ebb. The Tandava dance gets necessitated when Dharma (righteousness) needs to be re-established. Society finally reaches a point of no return. To put the society back on its pedestal comes, a savior, messiah to cleanse the society of all its ills. Tandava nritya, the cosmic dance allegorically represents this state.
Call it battle of Mahabharata perpetuated by Lord Krishna or Tandava nritya of Lord Shiva… both mean the same! The society needs a good shaking. In human terminology we could call it Pralaya on mother earth. Something drastic was needed and was going to become a reality. The coming of an avatar announces everything would be dealt with a firm hand.
In times of strife, extreme tribulation comes, a messiah, savior… we called avatar in Hinduism and the cosmic dance of Lord Shiva starts. This Tandava nritya continues until aftermath of Mahabharata when society witnesses start of Satyuga (the golden period). In a decade or so from now mankind would itself witness the cosmic dance of Lord Shiva, Tandava nritya in full fury when in the anticipated world war 3 about 1200 million people will perish worldwide.
Such would be the fury of this war that Albert Einstein rightly predicted fourth world war would be fought with bamboos and sticks. All the scientific development we witness today will come to naught, a purely man-made calamity.
