We could never assess essence of scriptures based on ifs and buts. Lord Krishna is soul atman existing within every human being. The question of a soul atman going wrong can never arise. During times of Lord Krishna in Dwapar Yuga a similar situation as today existed… full of strife, extreme tribulation. In such times comes on avatar (God manifest in human form) to cleanse the society of its ills. Dharma (righteousness) can be re-established only by an avatar, never a man god one who simply practices spirituality, nothing more! When facing the enemy head-on we could never practice ahimsa (nonviolence).
The battle of Mahabharata was no ordinary war. It was a battle of Dharma. To put the society back on its pedestal, a war of Dharma gets necessitated every 3500 to 5000 years when comes a messiah, savior to save mankind from rigours of day-to-day life.
The battle of Mahabharata is indicative of the perennial battle going within every human being between positive and dark forces of nature. Sometimes we invoked positive thoughts and at other times negative. To overpower negativity, with the assistance of soul atman within (Lord Krishna within) we could win the battle once and for all… become a Jina, an enlightened one… a bodhi, a Mahavira. We can do it provided we could hear the sweet small promptings of our soul atman coming from within.
