The Virat Swaroop taken by Krishna in Mahabharata was allegorical. Is only exemplifies the stage when Arjuna finally succeeds in gaining enlightenment after sermon of Bhagavad Gita. At this time Arjuna himself transforms to a pure soul atman, the so-called Virat Swaroop! After dwelling for some time in his Virat Swaroop, Arjuna comes back to reality of physical manifest life. It was then he finally decides to fight the enemy Kauravas head-on. Only a short while before Arjuna considered himself a physical manifest body but now he finally realizes… he was a soul atman on its cosmic life cycle!
