Lord Krishna was an avatar of his era (God manifest in human form). As ordained by God an avatar comes every 3500 to 5000 years. In Dwapar Yuga, above 3650 years before now came Lord Krishna and in present to annihilate dark forces of Kali Yuga people await advent of Kalki avatar… messiah, savior of present times. Coming of an avatar announces a war of Mahabharata magnitude. To cleanse the society of its ills, a mother of all wars was necessitated. About a decade or so from now mankind would witness Kalki avatar, a one-man army in whose period humanity would take a severe beating. In the expected world war three 1200 million people are expected to perish. A gigantic loss of about 20% population of world! Coming of an avatar was not a small phenomenon. Everything was ordained by God.
The coming of an avatar gets necessitated only to re-establish Dharma (righteousness).
