As detailed in scriptures of Hinduism, all lower forms of life had a soul atman within. Every single act of karma was accounted for. For killing a mosquito, we accumulate bad karma. It is possible that killing millions of mosquitoes was equivalent to killing a human being. All was relative. The doctrine of Bhava karma of Jainism clearly says if we commit a murder even in our thoughts, an act of karma has been committed.
