Happiness, bliss was something that could never be purchased with money. Ask any monk, sage about the value of money and you would finally realize that everything mortal was ephemeral in nature. The moment death took over; all our material gains are left behind.
Prime reason why seekers of different era travelled path of spirituality to reach stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi (stage of absolute nothingness)… the stage of total tranquility, 100% bliss. This experience just could not be described in words; it can only be realized, felt.
The happiness people purchased through money was temporal. If we desire permanent happiness, stage of absolute bliss… our undertaking spiritual journey was mandated by God. We had to become a pure soul atman to reach stage of absolute bliss. We had to negate our karma to zero to reach stage of total bliss.
A pure soul atman devoid of dross impurities within becomes free from cycle of birth and death forever. This stage is termed enlightenment (kaivalya jnana).
