Bhagavad Gita was not a doctrine or philosophy existing before coming of Lord Krishna. When Arjuna was indecisive, in a dilemma whether or not to fight his cousins Kauravas in the battle of Mahabharata… Lord Krishna delivered a sermon to Arjuna that is termed Bhagavad Gita. The written script Bhagavad Gita was composed by Sage Veda Vyasa.
Soon after Lord Krishna started delivering his sermon to Arjuna, he raised many queries intermittently. By the time Lord Krishna finished his sermon, Arjuna was ready, totally prepared to fight his enemy head-on. Arjuna had finally realized shallowness of his thinking. He had realized he was a soul atman, the spirit within on its cosmic life cycle of 8.4 million manifestations. The present earthly life was one manifestation.
As per Lord Krishna Arjuna was not a physical being but a spiritual entity that manifested human form to work out its karma, remove dross impurities within. As per Lord Krishna this was not the first time soul atman of Arjuna manifested physical form of Arjuna. The cycle of birth and death, manifesting 1.1 million bodies in human form was inevitable part of cosmic life.
