Suffering in life permanently ends only when we reached stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana), never before. Why? The moment a soul atman reaches stage of absolute purity, it need not manifest a body again to work out its karma. In absence of dross impurities within the need for a soul atman to manifest a new body now ceased to exist. Sufferings exist as long as dross impurities exist within a soul atman.
For a soul atman to cleanse itself of dross impurities within, it has to go through cycle of sufferings and happiness all throughout life. If there were no sufferings, only happiness then life carried no meaning in cosmic system. The whole system would become stagnant, decay and die. Both sufferings and happiness are two sides of the same coin. It is only through phases of sufferings and happiness life evolved in cosmic system. In Hinduism for a spiritual traveler such sufferings were termed Agni Pariksha.
If we look at different phases of life we will notice that sufferings and happiness exist in life of all living beings, even nonliving. When a blacksmith shapes an iron rod he initially heats the rod. Then beats it to give shape, again heats it, then again beats it and finally puts the shaped rod into a bucket of cold water. The process of heating, beating and shaping is the period of suffering and when immersed in a bucket of cold water, it is time for experiencing happiness. That was how evolution of life takes place.
