Do we need a Guru in Spirituality or Religion?

Making a Guru in any religion is the worst thing for any spiritual seeker, one who desired reaching God in present life. A spiritual master (Guru) was necessitated only to solve our queries from time to time. But in present times so-called religious preachers desired creating bondage with the Guru. Instead of cutting all ephemeral bondages, we were getting more and more entangled in earthly relationships.

Spirituality demands removal of dross impurities within our soul atman. Even the delicate bondage with our parents, brothers and sisters and all other relatives and friends needed to be cut forever, in absence of which we could not negate karma to zero, succeed in establishing absolute control over five senses and mind. Spiritual masters who acted only as a guide were difficult to find in present times.

Right from six years of age I searched for a true spiritual master but I got none. In desperation when I could bear it no more I asked God Almighty to become my guide in the journey of life and lo, he willingly agreed. Since then it was never looking back. My journey of spirituality finally stepped up. Whenever I had some queries, while going to sleep I would always call a roundtable conference in which sat Lord Krishna, Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ, prophet Mohammed and other enlightened beings.

In the morning when I got up, all my queries lay shredded in trash. All my queries resolved I felt a bout of fresh energy every time. Having a Guru in life is detrimental to spiritual pursuit. At an early age I realized Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana finally succeeded in gaining enlightenment in their lifetime. Whenever I had queries, I went through their literature and mostly found my answers. I repeated path of self enquiry taken by Maharishi Ramana, (path of Neti… not this, not this) to reach God.

The essence of spirituality always lay in solving queries within, never forming a Guru, creating more bondage. Only an enlightened one can solve our queries. In the last about 150 years amongst 7 billion people existing world over only Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana finally reached God. In such circumstances how could we find an enlightened one in present times to solve our queries? Mahavira (24th Tirthankara of Jainism, preceptor) rightly said… do not preach unless you become an enlightened one like Mahavira.
