Hinduism scriptures say spirit of the dead immediately manifests a new body to start new cycle of life. In Hinduism a soul atman is a spirit, a consciousness much beyond comprehension of human beings. Only if matching parents are not available on mother earth, the spirit of the dead hibernates in heaven or hell. In heaven (swarga) if the residual balance of karma at the time of death of body was positive, and hell if negative! Both heaven and hell exist in sun.
