Main Scriptures Holy Books of Hinduism

What was more important… the path or the goal? Decorating my reading space with a big library or the essential scriptures needed to reach God? I opted for the second path.

I wanted to reach God in present life. If I indulged in collecting, analyzing, reading the vast paraphernalia of scriptures of Hinduism, I would have never reached God in my lifetime. I had a limited time span of 70 to 80 years of present earthly abode. I had no spare time at my disposal. I never wanted to leave things to chance. I wanted to reach 8.4 millionth manifestation, last in cosmic life cycle.

The collection was huge; I had to cut short my reading. Using power of discrimination, path of contemplation, path of truthfulness I succeeded in separating essential from those not required. In present times one need not indulge in Vedas (Hinduism revelations) to reach God. For me Vedas never formed part of essential reading. I indulged only in Bhagavad Gita and eleven primary Upanishads.

Analyzing path travelled by Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana I realized both these spiritual stalwarts finally succeeded in reaching God in their lifetime. Both had initially taken path of karma yoga and bhakti yoga but realizing, God could not be reached in absence of path of jnana yoga, both started travelling path of contemplation, logical reasoning to reach God.

I started duplicating path undertaken by Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana. The teachings contained in Bhagavad Gita and 11 primary Upanishads came to my rescue. In the wee hours of third of August 1993 at 37 years of age I finally had Sakshat Darshan of God Almighty on one-to-one basis. I reached 8.4 millionth manifestation and am presently in communion with god every second of life.

I am lucky not to have indulged in the vast paraphernalia of scriptures of Hinduism. Had I done so, I would have turned another failure of spiritual path, perhaps becoming a patient of severe depression.

What use decorating our library with scriptures we may never read in our lifetime?
