Must we really indulge in mythology? Can we not manage our life without it? From six years of age I have not indulged in even a single book of Hindu mythology. Why? My goal of life always was reaching God in present life. In the initial stages of life I realized that religion had no place in realizing our true inner self… our soul atman, the spirit within.
All that is contained in Hindu mythology was not fictional. Hindu mythology primarily explained hidden precepts of spirituality via mode of storytelling. It is our responsibility to discriminate truth from false. Blaming story writers does not yield anything.
In my search for God except for teachings of spiritual path contained in Bhagavad Gita and various Upanishads (independent treatises), I did not refer any other religious text. Hinduism religion contains vast paraphernalia of spiritual and religious texts. Exercising power of discrimination we can reach the right reading material. We must never forget we had only one life to live the present earthly journey of 70 to 80 years. Why indulge in mythology and mar our present and future.
