True enlightenment could never be experienced… it could only be gained when we permanently detached self from the body. Gaining enlightenment meant becoming a pure soul atman, emancipating from cycle of birth and death forever… reaching cosmic end of life.
No matter how much we desire, enlightenment could never be experienced or achieved. We need to work to reach stage of enlightenment. The same indulgences that Mahavira, Gautama Buddha underwent… we also need doing the same. Lest we endlessly keep rotating in cycle of birth and death!
Life was all about getting free from bondage of karma otherwise why would Mahavira (24th Tirthankara of Jainism), Gautama Buddha… Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed indulge in that. We need traveling spiritual journey from a very young age to reach stage of enlightenment.
Enlightenment announces cessation of all worldly activities forever. One finally establishes self in the inner self existing in our heart. We finally become a free spirit, consciousness that would ultimately merge with larger consciousness we called God (Brahman in Hinduism).
