An enlightened person does not relate life in terms of happiness. Enlightenment was gained establishing total control over five senses and mind. In absence of earthly inhibitions of physical manifest life… an enlightened one always lived in a world full of bliss… total calm, serenity within. Bliss is termed Ananda in Hinduism. The cosmic ecstasy we called bliss was beyond expression of words. Only an enlightened one could realize this.
Happiness could result from gains of physical manifest life but Ananda (inner bliss) always resulted from purity of soul atman. Devoid of dross impurities within, a pure soul atman always remained in a state of bliss… tranquility! Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana always remained in a state of bliss after reaching stage of enlightenment. So was the case with Mahavira, Gautama Buddha… Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed.
One can absolve self from happiness or unhappiness by treading path of spirituality detailed in Bhagavad Gita. A true seeker, traveler of spiritual path was never after happiness. Happiness was truly a property of physical manifest world, unrelated to the inner world of soul atman.
