Ego (Aham in Hinduism) is a property of physical manifest self. In absence of ego no human being would indulge in karma. Everything would simply decay and die.
To travel spiritual path, we need to overcome ego forever. Devoid of ego our karma negates to zero.
Ego can be overcome only by indulgence in nishkama karma yoga, offering fruits of karma performed to God Almighty all the time. We need working like a trustee, for whom everything from the beginning belonged to God Almighty. There was nothing one could call as own. Spiritually also fruits of karma always belonged to our soul atman and never the manifest physical human form. It is our ego that tells us otherwise. For a spiritual traveler, ego is the biggest hurdle.
I started in search of God six years of age. From the very beginning of life I threw myself for the benefit of mankind. Everything I indulged was for the welfare of mankind at large all the time. Not for single moment did I believe in working for personal self. I started my indulgence in nishkama karma yoga right from six years of age. My love for God was 100%. My faith in God was 100%.
When about 15 years of age, my father told me a story about the trusteeship concept! After introspection I found this concept of trusteeship as pivotal for enhancing spiritually. All my doubts regarding indulging in nishkama karma yoga were put to rest forever. I truly became an instrument in hands of God Almighty doing his bidding all the time. After all I was a soul atman manifesting human form. Nothing truly belonged to me ever, not even the present body.
My journey of spirituality took 31 years before I finally realized God in 1993 37 years of age.
