If recitation of Hanuman Chalisa could result in spiritual development… many Hindus would have gained enlightenment every single day. In the last about 150 years only Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana succeeded in gaining enlightenment, moksha salvation. Enlightenment can be gained only by negating karma to zero. Karma has to be burnt in totality to reach stage of absolute purity as a soul atman. This became possible by traveling path of jnana yoga and nishkama karma yoga.
