Doctrine of Maya Veil of Illusion by Adi Shankaracharya Other than God Brahman Nothing Existed in Cosmos

The doctrine of Maya (veil of illusion) propagated by Adi Shankaracharya explicitly states that other than God (Brahman) nothing existed in cosmos. All was an act of Maya (illusion). Adi Shankaracharya explains it thus;

If we presume the present cosmos has a boundary then what beyond? If we say the present cosmos does not have a boundary and was endless, this also was just not possible. Adi Shankaracharya summed this up by saying the whole cosmos exists only in thoughts of God (Brahman).

The cosmic goal of human life was reaching stage of enlightenment, gaining moksha salvation… liberating self from cycle of birth and death forever. Indulging in spirituality, yoga meditation every human being on mother earth could gain enlightenment in present life or leave it for future manifestations. To choose the path… religious or spiritual was our sole prerogative.
