Moha (termed Moh in Hinduism) is the feeling of extreme emotional attachment that most human beings on mother earth are imbibed with. In case of women in particular, the feeling of Moha is at its zenith. Seeing a child crying on the street, an unknown woman would tend to one, comparatively men would watch and look the other way. Because of this deeply imbibed feeling of Moha (extreme emotional attachment) gaining enlightenment for women was extremely difficult. Prime reason why in the history of entire mankind only two ladies till date reached stage of enlightenment… the famous philosopher saint Gargi and Maitreyi, the second dutiful wife of sage Yajnavalkya, composer and compiler of most voluminous Brihadaranyaka Upanishad. Gargi and Maitreyi colleges in New Delhi are reminiscent of same.
On path of pure spirituality, for gaining enlightenment in present life one needs establishing absolute control over five senses and mind. For this, our establishing absolute control over Moha was necessitated.
The concept of Maya in Hinduism relates to doctrine of Advaita Vedanta propagated by Adi Shankaracharya. As per doctrine of Maya (veil of illusion) God Almighty (Brahman in Hinduism) was the only truth of life. Other than Brahman nothing existed in cosmos.
If we analyze the present cosmos we find it does not seem to have a boundary. If it does, then what beyond! If the present cosmos does not have a boundary, it could only exist in thoughts of God Almighty. As per Adi Shankaracharya the whole physical manifest world was an illusion, a creation of Maya, veil that needs removing before one gained enlightenment. To understand precept of Advaita Vedanta, our indulgence in path of contemplation, logical reasoning was mandated.
As per Advaita Vedanta doctrine of Hinduism, the whole cosmos was pure gaseous formation. Only when perceived from senses point of view, things appeared solid… in reality all was gaseous formation. Broken down to basic building block of cosmos, the human form was but a cluster of atoms and molecules. It has rightly been said God exists everywhere. Truly God existed in every living form in miniscule form as our soul atman, the spirit within. Form of amoeba, all insect life, plant life and animal life contained a soul atman within. Sages and Saints of different era bluntly say to reach God one needs cutting across shackles of Moha and Maya. Cutting across veil of Moha and Maya initially seemed difficult, but was not impossible.
