Enlightenment was gained traveling path of spirituality. The spiritual path was a journey that was always traveled all alone. A spiritual preceptor can act only as a guide but do nothing further. Similar as a teacher could not make a student come first in class, it is our individual karma that ruled the roost. At every stage of spiritual life karma was governing. As our indulgence in karma, accordingly manifests our destiny.
Enlightened ones are not to be found in present times. In the last about 150 years amongst 7 billion people existing world over only Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana finally made it to the end. Taking a cue from teachings contained in Bhagavad Gita, life pattern of Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana… one could easily reach stage of enlightenment in present times.
The teachings relating to enlightenment… jnana wisdom contained in Bhagavad Gita formed core of spirituality. We could in fact duplicate path undertaken by Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa or Maharishi Ramana. One could say… it was just impossible to become a Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa or Maharishi Ramana in present life time but Swami Vivekananda did not believe so.
Swami Vivekananda could have easily reached stage of enlightenment under able preceptorship of Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa but his goal of life was different.
The entire literature relating to Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana acts as a wonderful guide to reaching stage of enlightenment in present life time. For gaining enlightenment in present life… the need for a live guru (preceptor) did not exist. Indulging in 700 shlokas verses contained in Bhagavad Gita… any human being world over could easily reach stage of enlightenment.
The seeds of enlightenment always lay within all human beings existing on mother earth. Indulging in contemplation, introspection… logical reasoning… we could easily understand various precepts of spirituality contained in scriptures of different religions of world, to reach the hidden underlying meaning. Nothing in scriptures could be understood literally, indulgence in contemplation was an absolute must. As contemplation was an individual matter… prime reason why journey of spirituality is always traveled all alone.
Enlightened ones like Mahavira, Gautama Buddha… Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed did not exist in present times but their teachings did. The best commentaries on Bhagavad Gita in present times were available with Gita press, Gorakhpur, India… both in Hindi and English.
