Anime characters were without a heart… did not have consciousness, a spirit within like human beings. In real life human beings powered by their willpower could sometimes exhibit exemplary courage where normal human beings would quit, fail or die. Most heroes in movies exhibited this exemplary willpower.
This exemplary willpower stems from existence of a soul atman, consciousness in our heart. Hinduism scriptures explicitly say that present journey of life belongs to our spirit, consciousness within and never the manifest physical human form. Remaining truthful all the time, exercising power of discrimination we could manifest willpower to full capacity… the willingness to live! Even in most adverse circumstances one could survive by manifesting 100% willpower.
Travelers of spiritual path always did it. So advanced was their willpower that sometimes even wild animals did not disturb them, who could have otherwise gored them to death.
