Human form does not possess a soul, the vice versa was true! It was our soul atman that manifested human form to work out its karma, remove dross impurities within!
On its cosmic life cycle of 8.4 million manifestations, human form was the highest manifest stage! It was only in human form a soul atman finally liberated self from cycle of birth and death forever. On the evolution hierarchy we as human beings existed on the highest level. Enlightenment could never be reached in lower forms of life.
As detailed in Bhagavad Gita we were primarily a spiritual being, a consciousness! The moment we reached 8.4 millionth manifestation, the cosmic journey of life for a soul atman finally came to an end! Devoid of dross impurities within, the need for soul atman to manifest human body any further ceases to exist. The liberated soul atman finally enters Vaikuntha (kingdom of God), a point of no return!
