Reincarnation is principally defined as a soul atman manifesting another form after death of present body. This principle is understood only if we believed in presence of souls’ atmans.
As detailed in Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads, the present journey of life belongs to our soul atman, and never the manifest physical human form. As a manifest physical entity we had no standing in cosmic system. Our soul atman, the consciousness within residing in our heart was always governing.
After death of present body, the released soul atman would again manifest a new body to start new cycle of life. This cycle of life from one manifestation to another by a soul atman is termed reincarnation. This cycle of birth and death comes to an end when human beings traveling path of pure spirituality reached stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and finally moksha salvation.
The liberated soul atman finally entered abode of God (Vaikuntha in Hinduism).
In human form, a soul atman has a maximum of 1.1 million manifestations before it reaches 8.4 millionth manifestation, last in cosmic life cycle.
