As per Hinduism scriptures we were primarily a spirit, a spiritual being manifesting human form! All relationships of earthly life come to naught moment human beings left mortal frame. There was no way one soul atman could connect to another.
The soul atman of the deceased immediately manifests a new body to start new journey of life on mother earth. As ordained by God, the previous relationships could not be known by one. The new manifest form was not permitted to look into world of past lives.
Even if soul atman of the deceased manifests a new form in the same family, we would not be able to recognize one!
Only after human beings reached stage of enlightenment, moksha salvation… the liberated soul atman existed in kingdom of God (Vaikuntha in Hinduism). This free spirit, the liberated soul atman could be invoked by any human being on mother earth to receive ones blessings, grace!
On path of pure spirituality a serious seeker could definitely get in contact with a liberated soul atman but only in subconscious state.
