Consuming Non-vegetarian Food was never a Taboo for reaching Stage of Enlightenment

Consumption of meat stokes passions. For traveling path of spirituality sincerely our establishing absolute control over desires was necessitated. Consuming non-vegetarian diet, we were adding fuel to fire. Furthermore, our thought process was violated. For the sake of our food, someone (a bird or an animal) was killed. Maybe not directly but indirectly we become a sinner in part.

When young, I distantly remember getting slippers from a branded shoe shop only to discover that I could not use them. Probably, the leather used in the slipper was made from hide of a young animal, or from hide of mother animal who was massacred with child by its side. The curse of the child animal did not let me wear that slipper. Whenever I tried to wear it, a distinct shrill voice of crying disturbed me greatly. I finally gave that slipper away.

In yesteryears, when vegetation had not yet evolved as today… consumption of meat was common. In present times where there is no dearth of vegetarian meals, we could reduce our dependence on non-vegetarian meals. The feeling of tranquility, serenity while having vegetarian food was just great.

Spiritual journey definitely expedites for those who consumed vegetarian meals. Consuming non-vegetarian food was never a taboo for reaching stage of enlightenment.
