If we do not care for what people say or do, we could govern our life in a better manner. Prompted by others all the time, we could never run our life effectively. Before we could gain inner peace, tranquility in our mind (brain) we must have a definite goal in life. Only then we could channelize all our energies behind that single goal of life. In absence of a goal our thinking process remains uncontrolled, unbridled. Thousands of thoughts passed through our brain every second of life both positive and negative. We could channelize the positive thoughts towards our goal of life and reject all that was negative. Overpowering mind power takes time but was not difficult. By hit and trial we can do it.
Opinions of other people affected us if we accepted their opinions. If we had a fixed goal in life, how could opinions of others affect us! In a limited time span of 70 to 80 years of earthly abode, where was the time for indulgence in trivial issues of life. Manifesting success was not that easy, it demands time. By controlling our desires and wishes, establishing control over ego we could experience inner peace, feelings of tranquility within. As we established control over senses, control over mind power automatically. Control over mind power means invoking only requisite thoughts and rejecting all that was not necessary. We were not born a slave even to our parents, family members and friends.
All had right to their opinion and so do us. Exercising our free will, power of discrimination we could accept only those thoughts that were instrumental in pushing us towards our goal. If someone gives me a piece of advice, it was my sole prerogative to accept the same or not. If we were truthful in life we could all the time assert ourselves and reject opinions of others. In absence of truth, nothing much could be achieved. Truthfulness plays a very vital role in exercising free will, power of discrimination.
