Tapas in Hinduism stood for Burning Karma from Within

Tapas in Hinduism stood for burning karma from within. It was purely a spiritual process, totally unexplainable, beyond capture of words. Indulging in good karma, positive thinking… practicing 100% truthfulness all the time… human beings reduced dross impurities within soul atman gradually.

Contemplation on path of yoga meditation was a highly mentally draining process. The more we indulged, greater the loss of dross impurities within. With passage of time dross impurities within soul atman reduced to zero and human beings reached stage of enlightenment forever.
