As a human being, in manifest physical self can one ever reach nirvanic goal of life? The physical manifest life was but a medium for our soul atman to reach stage of absolute purity. Concepts like enlightenment, kaivalya jnana, Nirvana exist for travelers of spiritual path, never travelers of material world. A commoner, one from masses not interested in travelling path of spirituality has to pass through cycles of birth and death again and again. We just could not ride two boats at the same time.
Nishkama karma yoga is the path undertaken by seekers of God. Indulging in nishkama karma yoga we can negate our karma to zero. In absence of dross impurities within our soul atman finally reaches stage of absolute purity. Philosophical concepts can never be understood literally, teachings contained in sacred texts demand indulgence in contemplation, path of logical reasoning, self enquiry. Travelling spiritual path was not a profession; it was a journey towards our true inner self… our soul atman, the spirit within.
Path of spirituality can always be travelled while indulging in routine affairs of life. King Janaka (father of Sita in Ramayana) indulged in path of nishkama karma yoga even while conducting affairs of his kingdom. Working with an unattached attitude he satisfactorily conducted affairs of his kingdom. Under the able preceptorship of sage Yajnavalkya, King Janaka gained all his jnana wisdom.
A civil engineering graduate from the oldest and finest institutes of our country, I succeeded in travelling spiritual path while conducting my business. There were lapses, but I had to bear the cost. At some point of time my family also suffered. But then, there is a price to be paid for travelling spiritual path. In my spiritual sojourn I do not remember how many times I had to eat hell for breakfast, how many contemplations of suicide. But my decision to see and meet God in this life was absolute and I finally reached God in the wee hours of third of August 1993 at 37 years of age.
