Unless we have a definite goal in life, our boat of life being rudderless goes round and round in the ocean. If we had a definite goal, we could channelize all our energies behind that single goal of life. By practicing absolute celibacy we could even gain enlightenment in present life.
If spirituality was not our path, to establish control over mind powers we need establishing control over desires and wishes. Control over five senses was also necessitated. We need overpowering our ego. Control over five senses and ego comes gradually and was a long drawn process. Mesmerized by glare of worldly riches, most human beings world over indulged in unproductive thoughts most of time!
Control over five senses leads human beings to stem the flow of incessant thoughts entering our brain every second of life. Control over negative thoughts comes via path of celibacy (Brahmacharya Vrata). By practicing nishkama karma yoga, not going after fruits of karma performed we could slowly reduce flow of positive thoughts to our brain, thoughts that were not related to our goal of life.
Having a single goal in life was of utmost importance. Only then we could put all our eggs in one basket and pursue that goal of life. We have to follow example of Swami Vivekananda. We just could not think we could never become like him.
All successful people started in their life like ordinary human beings. They formed a goal, pursued it vigorously through hard work and dedication. They finally tasted absolute success. Watch the lifestyle of foreigners who had no idea about Bhagavad Gita or spiritual precepts of life. Yet, most of them lived in the present moment. Their glowing face tells it all. They are born in the morning and die in the night. For them every single day is a new journey of life full of zeal, enthusiasm… laughter!
