In erstwhile Bharatvarsha (now India) when seekers, sages and Rishis finally succeeded in reaching stage of enlightenment… words from the domain of God Almighty started flowing automatically. One could invoke anything from domain of God. During this time sages and Rishis invoked Vedas (Hinduism revelations)… the first words of God Almighty invoked by mankind.
The invocation about hierarchy of avatars flowed automatically from top. If we indulge in Upanishads (independent treatises), the entire cycle of evolution right from stage of amoeba (single cell formation) to human form was explicitly detailed. In Dashavatara of Vishnu, the initial avatars relate to Hindu mythology… having nothing to do with absolute reality. The real jnana wisdom that was palatable by masses flowed only from times of Lord Krishna!
On path of pure spirituality we must learn to distinguish mythology from absolute reality of life. Furthermore, Lord Vishnu also was an attribute of God (Brahman in Hinduism). Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita makes it clear that all worship, prayers must directly be addressed to Brahman and never attributes of God Almighty yet entire mankind indulged in worship of Lord Vishnu. Why?
The real reason behind all these anomalies was our literal indulgence in scriptures. Unless we reached the hidden underlying meaning through path of contemplation, nothing in field of spirituality becomes clear. From childhood I believed only in one avatar… that of Lord Krishna. This surmise of mine never proved wrong. Following teachings of Lord Krishna contained in Bhagavad Gita I finally succeeded in reaching stage of self realization, god realization in 1993 37 years of age.
