In yesteryears when human beings had not yet evolved to the stage they are today, seekers reached stage of enlightenment through path of bhakti yoga that demands total surrender to God Almighty. Such a surrender and finally acceptance by God Almighty in present times of Kali Yuga… Dark Age, metal age seemed totally impossible. Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana started in search of God via path of bhakti yoga (total surrender to God) and karma yoga. But finding God could not be reached via path of bhakti yoga and karma yoga alone, both finally switched to path of jnana yoga (absolute wisdom) to reach God in their lifetime. Path of jnana yoga (absolute wisdom) was necessitated to assimilate teachings of sacred texts. Path of jnana yoga entails indulgence in path of contemplation, path of self enquiry, path of logical reasoning to realize hidden underlying meaning contained in scriptural texts.
Having 100% faith in God all the time was an absolute necessity of spiritual path.
Enlightenment never happens of its own. No concept like mindfulness exists on path of pure spirituality.
Our remaining truthful all throughout was an important necessity of spiritual path. To hear the sweet small inner voice of our soul atman that seemed to come from within our heart, our travelling path of absolute truthfulness was necessitated. Right from six years of age I could hear the promptings of my soul atman that always guided me on right path.
Practicing meditation means indulgence in yoga. And what does yoga mean? Yoga is derived from the root word yog which in Hindi stood for yoking. The effort of our soul atman to yoke with God Almighty (Parmatman) is termed yoga meditation. Yoga meditation can only be indulged via path of spirituality as detailed in Bhagavad Gita. Yoga meditation could never be practiced via path of religion, path of rituals.
It is path of spirituality travelling which human beings finally reached stage of absolute purity. The purity was gained by our soul atman, the consciousness within and never the manifest physical self. As detailed in scriptures of Hinduism we were primarily a spirit, a soul atman on its cosmic life cycle of 8.4 million manifestations that entailed an earthly journey of 96.4 million years. Path of enlightenment has been termed path of spirituality for we were primarily a spirit, a consciousness that manifested human form to work out its karma, remove dross impurities within.
Yoga meditation does not mean sitting in a darkened room concentrating on a dimly lit bulb or light.
Indulgence in yoga meditation means travelling path of nishkama karma yoga as detailed in Bhagavad Gita. Nishkama karma yoga means detaching self from fruits of karma performed. Truthfully we were a custodian, caretaker a trustee taking care of things that already belonged to God Almighty. The fruits of karma performed by human beings always belonged to the master… our soul atman, the spirit within. It is not within the capability of human form to manifest a soul atman. Realizing our true inner self, realizing we were primarily a soul atman is what spirituality all about. This becomes possible by travelling spiritual path.
Enlightenment is not something to be known. It has to be realized from within.
When one reached stage of Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ or Prophet Mohammed… one finally realizes what enlightenment was all about.
