Born an ordinary mortal, in his lifetime Chaitanya Mahaprabhu succeeded in reaching stage of enlightenment via path of bhakti yoga that demands total surrender to God Almighty. In present Kali Yuga none could reach God via path of bhakti yoga alone. Indulgence in path of jnana yoga (absolute wisdom) and nishkama karma yoga was necessitated.
An incarnation, avatar was much above level of an enlightened one. There could be many enlightened ones in one circle of life that ranges between 3500 years to 5000 years but an avatar could only be one. Around 3650 years before came Lord Krishna, an avatar of Dwapar Yuga and in present times mankind awaits advent of Kalki avatar… savior, messiah of present Kali Yuga!
