When young stories about Lord Krishna did the round in my house! Even though born in a Jain family, the accomplishments of Lord Krishna were beyond belief. As a child I was fascinated by his accomplishments. This impelled me to indulge in Bhagavad Gita, the sermon given to mankind by Lord Krishna in battle of Mahabharata. Bhagavad Gita contains truth but only truth about cosmic life.
As we were primarily a spiritual being undertaking human journey, only by indulgence in teachings contained in Bhagavad Gita could we reach God. As I was very keen to know God, I indulged in teachings of Bhagavad Gita head-on. The elders in the family used to tell stories before going to bed in the night. Everything relating to Lord Krishna was welcome; I truly loved it from within.
In my spiritual pursuit of life I would never have succeeded in reaching God had it not been for teachings of Bhagavad Gita. As Lord Krishna was not available now, we could reach him only through his teachings. The moment I realized that Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana following path of jnana yoga finally succeeded in reaching stage of enlightenment, I followed their teachings.
Whatever was contained in Bhagavad Gita was also contained in teachings of Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana. If I seriously wanted to follow Bhagavad Gita, as a prelude I indulged in teachings of Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana… almost duplicating path undertaken by Maharishi Ramana. I indulged in self enquiry, Neti (not this, not this) most of time.
The teachings of Bhagavad Gita form summum bonum of spirituality. There was nothing more precise, more accurate… more truthful than teachings of Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita.
