Why is the Mahabharata still relevant today ?

Do you understand the most important aspect of Adhyatma – It never ages with time! This one sentence may take years before you realize its deep hidden inner meaning. There are two aspects of Mahabharata that we need to understand with absolute clarity – 1. Mahabharata is an epic composed and compiled by Maharishi Vedvyas. It consists of entire Bhagavad Gita, the sermon delivered by Krishna to Arjuna in the battlefield of Kurushetra. The 700 shlokas contained in bhagavad gita form integral part of Mahabharata. 2. Mahabharata represents the epic battle fought between those upholding Dharma and followers of untruth, those practicing Adharma.

It is widely believed that the battle of Mahabharata was fought about 3550 years before now. The battle of Mahabharata was necessitated to reestablish Dharma and eradicate the evil forces of Adharma. Only then life could prevail on mother Earth. In absence of battle of Mahabharata, life on mother Earth would have completely gone haywire and could have ultimately turned into a very perilous situation. As detailed in Scriptures of Sanatana Dharma life comes full circle every 3500 to 5000 years. The battle of Mahabharata always announced end of evil, and start of Satyuga, the golden period. This is termed cleansing of the society at large.

We are presently passing through sandhi kaal, a phase of life on mother Earth when a new Mahabharata is about to start. In present times, the present Mahabharata will be termed World War III – when almost 20% population of the entire world would be wiped out. This cleansing process would reduce the population of entire world from 8300 million to about 6500 million. As per doctrine of karma, only those people will get annihilated who have a negative balance of karma, never otherwise! To live life happily, to continue existing in the aftermath of World War III, our possessing a positive balance of karma is an absolute must. Those who think otherwise are totally mistaken.

Surviving a Mahabharata in present times is one part of life! In the other part bhagavad gita, the sermon by Bhagwan Krishna in the battle of Mahabharata plays a vital role. The sermon of bhagavad gita is all about human life – it details the meaning of life, the purpose of life and how to reach the cosmic end of life on mother Earth. As detailed in sacred texts of Sanatana Dharma, the purpose of human life is one and only one – gain emancipation from cycle of birth and death forever at the earliest. This becomes possible when human beings indulging in Scriptures undertook path of adhyatma and finally succeeded gaining moksha at the end of human life.

The jnana wisdom contained in 700 shlokas verses of bhagavad gita sufficed for human beings to reach Brahm in their lifetime. Human beings reached Brahm in their lifetime, the moment they reached 8.4 millionth manifestation, last in cosmic lifecycle. Undertaking path of adhyatma, any seeker on mother Earth can easily crossover the ocean of samsara and become free from the cycle of birth and death. Reaching 8.4 millionth manifestation announces our Atman reaching a state of absolute purity. This simply means, in absence of dross impurities within, a purified Atman need not manifest a new human body again.

For a seeker, an adhyatmik sadhaka – both aspects of Mahabharata are important – in all eventuality the society needs cleansing. The prime purpose of every realized soul is one and only one – to impart jnana wisdom contained in bhagavad gita to the ailing society. When the society reaches a point of no return, a Mahabharata is the only solution. In present times the society seems to have totally collapsed. To uphold Dharma, put the society back on its pedestal, World War III is the only solution. It is at this stage Sanatana Dharma plays a major role of imparting jnana wisdom contained in bhagavad gita to entire mankind.
