The depth of jnana wisdom contained in scriptures of Jainism was beyond capture of masses. For a Digambar Jain Muni (monk) even human body was clothing for soul atman within. As masses could not decipher the jnana wisdom contained in scriptures of Hinduism… it failed to evolve a large following.
Teachings of Buddhism which were much shallower compared to Jainism spread fast. While talking to a reputed publisher of INDOLOGY books I was told that if 10,000 pieces of a book in Buddhism were printed, only 1000 were printed in Jainism. We can imagine the large variation, the reading gap!
