The value of mantras can be realized only by a spiritual aspirant. For religious travelers indulgence in mantras was never necessitated.
For reaching God in present life our negating karma to zero was necessitated. Whatever negative karma we indulge in present life could be neutralized but what of negative residual balance of karma from previous manifestations! It took me above 15 years to realize the mantra for Prarabdha karma. Thereafter it was never looking back. Chanting this mantra I finally scuttled my karma to zero, overpowering five senses and mind forever.
Mantras could not be pronounced literally. The efficacy of a mantra existed in our understanding the hidden underlying meaning.
