Inherent Knowledge of Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads was Integral to every Hindu Living in India or Outside

The inherent knowledge of Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads was integral to every Hindu living in India or outside. Right from childhood stories relating to Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads were told by elders in the family or outside and in yester era it was the only pastime. So much so that need to ritually study Bhagavad Gita or Upanishads did not exist. Only scholarly people who were seriously interested in scriptural texts indulged in serious study of Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads.

Ask any Hindu child. The prime philosophy of Bhagavad Gita is clear to one.

Going to temples and praying to various gods and goddesses was a totally different matter but indulging in sacred texts was not that necessary.

I distinctly remember that during summer holidays when schools were closed for more than 2 1/2 months, we usually went to our maternal relatives. The elders in the family and outside, whoever we could meet told us stories galore relating to various scriptural texts. In absence of TV and other modes of communication… telling stories was the only medium for elders to convey gist of sacred texts.
