Two pieces of advice from my father made me what I am today… a God realized soul. Reaching God in a limited time span of 70 to 80 years of earthly life was not easy but I succeeded in reaching God in the wee hours of third of August 1993 37 years of age.
One day when I was struggling to indulge in shavasna pose of yoga practiced and advocated by Maharishi Ramana… my father came to me and said, I will teach you how to lay in shavasna pose of yoga. He taught me the art of invoking the subconscious lying in death pose.
Secondly when I and my brother were doing engineering from University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee), my father who had established a business after taking premature retirement from a central government organization asked us point-blank how shall we conduct, rather indulge in business after completing graduation. He then narrated how Tatas and Birlas operated.
The model on which Tatas operated was that of trusteeship. For a Tata nothing ever belonged to him. Everything belonged to God Almighty. They were only an instrument in hands of God Almighty doing his bidding all the time. For a Tata… welfare of workers and mankind at large was the only goal of life. I inherently decided that I would follow all my life the example of Tatas. My decision was firm and I told my father so. I did not want to hear the other part of story. Something in trusteeship concept pleased me. Analyzing it from within, I felt extremely happy. As my goal of life was reaching God, the concept of trusteeship came as a boon to me.
Still, my father insisted on telling other part of story. According to him Birlas were money oriented. If they wanted one of their sires to establish a factory and for that factory if 4 crores were required, then this amount would be against with the condition that moment the factory starts making profit, 50% of the parent amount would be returned to the parent organization. And eventually full amount would be returned and one day the sire would be running the factory of his own. A noble way to establish factory after another! Not a bad business model for one who wants to earn money more than anything. The gist of the matter lay in the fact… whether we wanted to go after money or not. All depends on our fixed goal of life. As my fixed goal of life from nine years of age was reaching God, I opted the Tata way.
Until my father left his mortal frame, I was always indebted to him for teaching me these two important parameters of life on mother earth.
