When young about five years of age I was extremely fascinated by religious stories told to us by elders in the family. It was almost a daily routine of three hours. No TV, no Internet… not even transistors… life was at its best! These stories by elders had a profound effect on our psyche. I do not know how it affected other children in family but for me it was a complete transformation.
During summer breaks we had a holiday of 2 1/2 months. During this period in India we usually went to maternal grandfathers’ place. And by luck there was an old accountant we called Bhagatji who was very fond of telling old stories. The session would normally start around 8 PM and end in the midnight. Whenever the word truth came in between the stories, I was filled with joy.
Something within told me to know everything relating to truth. I asked Bhagatji the meaning of truth and he narrated to me some stories that reflected power of truth. There and then I decided to follow path of truth all my life. From that very day I am 100% truthful in life. This truthfulness finally pulled me towards path of spirituality… domain of God. And started my indulgence with my consciousness, soul atman existing in my heart!
31 years of indulgence with truth, yoga meditation… I finally reached God in the wee hours of third of August 1993 at 37 years of age.
This is my part of story. All my life I have been truthful to my children. Rest is up to them.
I would also like to quote an incident in my school that had a profound effect on me. I made some mistakes in my Hindi notes, my homework! As a punishment I was given to write a line 500 times. In English the line translates to, truthfulness is the best policy. I was so fascinated by truth that next day I put my copy with 500 lines before the teacher. The teacher was visibly impressed and said, instead of 500 you have written 1000 times. Wow!
At that time I could not tell my teacher how fascinated I was by truthfulness. I just went on and on.
