What happened during bhakti yoga movement in erstwhile Bharatvarsha (now India)! During those times seekers, travelers of spiritual path succeeded in reaching stage of enlightenment by path of bhakti alone. Bhakti yoga demands total surrender to God, 100%! In bhakti yoga one becomes an instrument in hands of God Almighty doing his bidding all the time and all the while indulging in nishkama karma yoga.
Total submission to God means we leave all our responsibilities on God and in return take care of all children of God existing on mother earth.
Surrender to God was extremely self satisfying, a feeling of inner calm pervaded all the time. In case our goal of life was materialistic then there was a problem. Once we indulged in path of surrender there was no returning back. Once we become a trustee, caretaker… we remained a trustee all our life. Path of total surrender to God must be traveled with caution if our goal of life was not spiritual.
There are many examples in the history of mankind where people worked like a trustee all their life. But in such cases total surrender to God was not there. Working like a trustee also was a great service to mankind, even to self. Never aspiring for fruits of karma performed, we could work as a trustee all our life. JRD Tata, the scion of Tata Empire was a karma Yogi par excellence. Despite taking care of such a large Tata Empire, he all the while worked like a true trustee all his life. He never attached self to anything. He was impartial to workings of Tata group, even the results.
If our goal of life was transparent, if our working was transparent… where was the possibility of anything going wrong! For one who surrenders to God, God takes care of him profusely.
