What happens to Consciousness after Death

The consciousness of a human being is our soul atman, the spirit within that seems to reside in our heart. In absence of consciousness, the spirit within human body was a lump of flesh and bones, nothing more.

The moment death of human form occurred on mother earth, the released soul atman immediately manifested a new body to start new journey of life on mother earth. If matching parents are not available on mother earth the soul atman hibernated in heaven or hell (swarga or naraka in Hinduism).

In heaven (swarga) if the residual balance of karma at the time of death was positive and hell (naraka), if negative! Sooner matching parents become available on mother earth, the hibernating soul atman immediately manifests a new body to start new cycle of life.

This cycle of birth and death finally comes to an end when human beings reached stage of enlightenment, and finally salvation moksha.
