Gopis surrounding Lord Krishna Represent various Senses and Sense Objects

Allegorically Gopis represent various senses and sense objects existing in human body. Before human beings could realize self, reach consciousness existing in our heart… we had to overpower five senses and mind. These senses were Gopis surrounding Lord Krishna all the time. Lord Krishna represents our soul atman existing in our heart. Lord Krishna was the sarthi (charioteer) of our human body. Unless we overpowered Gopis (senses) we could never reach our true inner self, consciousness within! Our spiritual journey gets delayed as senses and sense objects were overpowering. By traveling path of nishkama karma yoga we could finally overpower senses and mind forever.

In simpler words our senses were a great hurdle to human beings reaching stage of enlightenment.
