Bhakti yoga was a path to reach God in mediaeval times when existed Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Eknath, Tukaram, Namdev, Samarth Ramdas, Kabir etc. During those times total submission to God Almighty was practically possible. In present times when materialistic tendencies are baring fangs one could reach God only via path of karma yoga and jnana yoga.
Both Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana initially started in search of God via path of bhakti yoga but finding God could not be reached via path of bhakti yoga alone… both finally switched to path of karma yoga and jnana yoga to reach God in their lifetime.
Bhakti demands absolute submission to God Almighty which in present times was next to impossible.
