Casteism in India primarily results from political rivalry. To garner political votes, political leaders of present times could stoop so low as to divide the society on caste lines. Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita divided the society based on Varna, never caste! As our karma, accordingly our Dharma! The ingrained hatred develops with time and was so potent as to destroy the society as a whole.
